In a solemn announcement, the family of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, one of Nigeria’s most distinguished evangelists, has confirmed that he passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
In a statement titled “Glorious Transition,” the Ukpai family described him as “a faithful soldier of the cross” who devoted more than six decades to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching, and prophetic ministry that touched millions across Nigeria and beyond.
“With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai … A faithful soldier of the cross has been called to rest.”
Dr. Ukpai founded the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), a non-denominational ministry based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, under whose umbrella he led crusades, healing outreaches, and mentoring programmes.
He was also a founding figure of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), contributing significantly to the unity and growth of Pentecostal and Charismatic churches across the nation.
Many political, religious and civic leaders have begun to pour in tributes across social media, describing his death as the end of an era in Nigerian evangelical ministry.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be made public, but the family assures that details will be announced in due course.
