One of Nigeria’s most respected Christian leaders, E. A. Adeboye, has marked his 84th birthday, drawing tributes from across Nigeria and beyond. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was celebrated for his decades of spiritual leadership, humanitarian impact, and unwavering commitment to faith.

Born on March 2, 1942, Pastor Adeboye’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a global religious figure has inspired millions. Before answering the call to full-time ministry, he was a university lecturer in mathematics. His life took a dramatic turn when he joined RCCG in the 1970s under the leadership of the church’s founder, Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi. In 1981, he succeeded Akindayomi as General Overseer, a position he has held for over four decades.

Under his leadership, RCCG has grown from a relatively small church in Nigeria into a global Christian movement with parishes in over 190 countries. The church’s annual Holy Ghost Congress and other large gatherings attract millions of worshippers from around the world. Pastor Adeboye is widely recognized for his emphasis on holiness, prayer, evangelism, and community development.

Beyond the pulpit, the octogenarian cleric has played significant roles in education and healthcare initiatives through RCCG’s various outreach programs. Schools, universities, hospitals, and charity projects established under his guidance have impacted countless lives, especially among underserved communities.

As he turns 84, messages of goodwill have poured in from political leaders, religious bodies, and members of the public. Many have described him as a father figure, mentor, and moral compass in challenging times. Social media platforms were flooded with prayers and appreciation posts celebrating his dedication and humility.

In his characteristic modesty, Pastor Adeboye has often deflected personal praise, directing attention instead to faith in God and service to humanity. At 84, his life stands as a testament to enduring faith, disciplined leadership, and a legacy that continues to shape generations.
