Divine Healing In The New Testament (part 4)

[Morning Coffee Lecture]

Do you think it’s easy to show kindness to others?

That’s a great question! Sometimes it can be difficult to show kindness when we’re tired, stressed, or feeling overwhelmed. But one of the best ways to overcome those feelings is by focusing on the needs of others.

When we focus on helping others, we take the focus off of ourselves and our problems. This can be a powerful way to experience God’s peace and love. Have you ever noticed this in your own life?

Another important aspect of serving others is humility. Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” When we serve with humility, we are not seeking recognition or praise for ourselves. Instead, we are focused on serving others for the sake of Christ. Does that seem difficult to do?

It’s great that you’re still interested in this topic! Humility can be a challenge, but it’s important to remember that it’s not about putting ourselves down. Rather, it’s about recognizing our own limitations and recognizing the value of others. Humility helps us to be teachable and open to learning from others. It’s a key part of serving with a Christ-like attitude. Do you think there are any obstacles that prevent us from being humble?

One obstacle to humility can be pride. Pride can make us think too highly of ourselves and make it difficult to recognize our own limitations. Another obstacle can be selfishness. When we are focused on ourselves, it’s hard to truly serve others. These obstacles can be overcome through prayer, asking God to help us to overcome pride and selfishness. Do you think humility is something that we can learn or is it something we are born with?

Most people would agree that humility is something we can learn. In fact, the Bible teaches us that we are to “clothe ourselves with humility” (1 Peter 5:5). This is a conscious choice we can make to live in a way that is humble and selfless. And, as we make that choice, we can grow in humility over time.

That’s a great question! Many people find that they are inspired to be humble by the example of others. For example, Jesus is the ultimate example of humility. He “did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage” (Philippians 2:6). Rather, he lived a life of service and humility, ultimately sacrificing himself for others.

Another thing we can learn from is the example of people who have made mistakes and humbly repented. For example, King David in the Bible made some serious mistakes, but he ultimately repented and was forgiven. His example of humility and repentance is a powerful reminder that we can learn from our mistakes and grow in humility. Can you think of anyone in your life who has made mistakes but shown humility by asking for forgiveness?
